The First International Congress of Belarusian Studies, which was held in Kaunas (Lithuania), gathered around 200 participants from 14 countries.
The Congress became an important event of Belarusian academic community, which gathered a wide range of historians, political scientists, sociologists and scholars from other disciplines, as well as experts from different fields. During the work in sections the most important research problems were discussed. Many important social and political processes were considered during the public debates.
A large number of positive reviews and comments allow us to consider the Congress as highly successful in realisation of its goals: communication development, promotion of mutual cooperation, presentation and discussion of new ideas and projects to improve the quality of researches in Belarus.
“From the very beginning the Congress was created as regular event, otherwise it would lose its sense. The First Congress should become a commencement and basis of International Congress of Belarusian Studies in future”, said Andrei Kazakevich, the chairman of organising committee.
Working papers of the Congress will be published in a volume. The next congress will be held in the second half of September 2012.
